An Interior Design Assistant supports the design professional in many ways: Helping customers, placing and following up on orders, assisting with office and bookkeeping details, arranging and following up on deliveries and installations, and using the sample library and design showrooms to select fabrics, wallpaper, paint, furniture, flooring and accessories. Interior Design Assistants must understand the many products used in the design business and be familiar with the language and process of interior design. They should be able to read a blueprint with sufficient expertise to assist the designer with space planning, window coverings and many other tasks and also offer assistance with sketching and CAD.
